Membership FAQ

Q: Do you have to be LGBT to be a member?

A: No. We are the LGBT and LGBTfriendly chamber of commerce. While the RBA is the LGBT business voice of Central Virginia, we are not exclusive to LGBT business owners.

Q: As a straight business owner, what does the RBA offer me?

A: There are many ways RBA helps members connect to LGBT customers.  All members of RBA are listed in our LGBT friendly business directory and receive RBA window clings to alert customers that this business is an LGBT ally.  RBA members also have access to networking events to engage other businesses (large and small), and have access to other opportunities to feature your business as an ally to the LGBT community through presentations and event sponsorships.

Q: Do I have to own a business to be a member?

A: Professionals, entrepreneurs, and community partners at nonprofits are all welcome.

Q: When does my membership become effective?

A: On the date that your payment for your membership dues is received.

Q: If I join, how long is my membership good for?

A: Your membership is good for one year from the date that you complete payment.

Q: Are businesses outside of the Richmond metro area eligible to join?

A: While the Richmond Business Alliance primarily serves the Richmond metro, we are the LGBT voice for Central Virginia.  If you are located in or serve Northern Virginia or Hampton Roads, you may consider joining one of our sister organizations serving those regions (Capital Area or HRBOR).

Q: What are the benefits of membership in the chamber?

A: See our membership page.

Q: What are the benefits of the LGBTBE certification?

A: See our LGBT-BE Certification page.

Q: I am a student, and I’d like to join the RBA for networking opportunities and to learn more about being a successful LGBT businessperson.  Do you have a membership category for me?

A: Yes. RBA now has a special membership category for students to join

Q: I am at a non-profit organization.  What level of membership is right for my organization?

A: We’re happy to discuss custom membership options, so feel free to call or email us.  But must of our nonprofit partners join as business level members.  Among other reasons, partner organization that wants their employees to join in on RBA events at the lowest per-person total investment often find that business level membership presents the best value.

Q: I work at a larger employer and we don’t see a membership option that’s right for us.   How do we join?

A:  Call or email us and we will find a membership bundle that’s appropriate for your business size.  Sponsorship and partnership opportunities may provide your business the best opportunity.
